Christmas reading recommendations

Christmas is about loving and giving. So I am sharing some love vibes here, by giving my blog over to some stupendous Indie Authors. They are telling you why their book might be good for a read over Christmas.

Whether looking for a Christmas Present for another, or a special treat for you, this is the blog post you need.

A good life. You know . . . a nice home, dependable vehicle and, if fate smiles kindly, a good-looking woman. Not picky, just a comfortable existence with a decent job that you don't hate. Is that too much to ask? For Jack, it is.

Patchwork Dog has a knack for getting into trouble and his best friend; Calico Cat usually winds up right in the middle of the mess with him. Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat has illustrations at the beginning of each chapter that hint at what the new adventure will be about. Other pictures are included at the end of each story along with some questions for the child to answer. Older children can read the stories themselves or it would make a wonderful bedtime story book for younger kids. The five tales will entertain children of all ages with the antics of the title characters and hopefully teach youngsters some valuable lessons on sharing and working together.

Laughter is the best medicine. If you're in need of a healing dose,
follow Frankie around as she starts her new life. Tossed out of
Hollywood by the vagaries of show business and Mother Nature, she
returns to her mother's bed and breakfast in Woodstock, New York,
where Frankie spent her adolescence, avoiding chores and chasing after the handyman's crush-worthy son. Mom's now in a nursing home, but using nothing but her wits, her charm, and her freakish knack for
cooking in large quantities, Frankie puts up with her bossy older sister, a four-time serial divorcee and famous feminist, as they turn the B&B into a holistic health retreat go pay the bills. She may even fall in love. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll learn a lot of things to do with tomatoes. Enjoy!

Riders of the Wind is an epic novel of adventure and romance set in the scene of aviation during the turbulent times of the nineteen twenties and thirties. The book follows the lives of Charles and Doretta Cross through the era of the great depression, prohibition, the airmail, and the formation of the infant airlines. It graphically portrays the danger, excitement and romance of flight in the pioneering years before World War Two and takes the reader into the cockpit with the airmail pilots of the twenties and the airline route survey pilots flying the heart of the Amazon jungles. A “must read” for anyone interested in aviation or, for that matter, anyone who is merely interested in the history, dress and lifestyle of the pre-WWII era.

The holidays are for family and warm fuzzies, right? For curling up in front of a roaring fire, eating roast chestnuts and drinking eggnog while your loved one reads A Christmas Carol aloud to you while telling you you're the most important person in his/her world... Cue scratched record sound effect… well, people, this is the real world, and one in which people jump to their deaths to avoid flaming jet fuel. Perhaps not exactly seasonal, but horribly real, this short account of one man's journey through a personal crisis set against the far greater catastrophe of the 9/11 terrorist attacks is unflinching and sobering. But above all—and here come some of those warm fuzzies, after all—there is a glimmer of hope and redemption to be found after all. Perhaps not Jimmie Stewart, but it's something. And it costs about the same as a couple of glasses of eggnog.

Why you want this book for Christmas; this from one of my reviews, says it for me;

From the moment I picked up the book I was caught. Like a fly in a web; a web made up of fantasy and enchantment. The book has several groups of people whose destiny is closely woven together. You find yourself following each in turn, in no way does this detract from the overall plot, rather serves the basis of drawing the reader in to know more. I quite honestly did not want this book to end.

Whether Fantasy is your normal genre or not, try this book. You will not be disappointed.

I'm not very good at promoting myself, but I suppose what I can say about my book is this:

Cats, as I affectionately call it, is something i put together for two reasons. First, everybody kept telling me the stories I had to tell about my cats were so funny I HAD to write about them, and I think most readers who love cats will at least smile, if not outoright laugh, reading this bok. Second, in these twenty years in which I have shared my life with cats, experience has taught me many lessons and a few, handy tricks... and I wanted to share them with other people, to spare them some of the problems (and suffering, at times) I've gone through, and to help them face small, everyday problems in the easiest way possible.
It makes (I hope) a funny and informative read.

Joe Cafe is the perfect Christmas gift because if there is one thing I know about Christmas, it's that it is a time to reflect on grizzly murders, kidnapping, strippers, war flashbacks, drinking, and organized crime.

********

This is a classic love story, with the hints of paranormal.  A well worth reading story for all.
It may not be the most perfectly written but, I (CAN promise) you once you start reading you will be hooked into it at the start to finish.

Why would you want this book for Christmas? Well, some readers have said that reading it is like taking a trip to Italy for less than the cost of a fancy coffee. Others have said the attention to emotional detail was noteworthy. Still others have praised the way the relationship at the heart of the story was portrayed: romantic, yet realistic. The characters are heartwarming, likeable and sympathetic, without going overboard into schmaltz. And, finally, it's an involving, comfortably-paced read which accompanies the reader on a journey away from the frantic preprations of the holiday season.

My book, DEAD: The Ugly Beginning, belongs on your list because it isn't "just another zombie book". This first book in the series (three are currently out and available and nine more remain) sets the table. This is a character-heavy series that Nickie Storey-Bailey had this to say about: "Brown did something that I didn’t think was possible; he took a zombie story and made it seem real. Of course, there is a lot of gore, blood, head-bashing, and the like. After all, this IS a zombie-related book and we all know that the only way to kill one is to disable their brains. I expected that. What I didn’t expect was a story with characters that I grew to like and care about."
